Now that I’ve reached the halfway point, it’s really, really obvious there are little people growing in my expanding belly. I thought it was obvious at least a month ago, but apparently I felt huger than I looked.
We three have gone through a growth spurt in the last few weeks, and now people are finally brave enough to venture a congratulations instead of just stealing an extra glance to decide whether I’ve gained weight or babies.
The best part is not just confirming their suspicions, but telling them it’s twins. The reaction is, almost invariably, “Oh my GOSH!” (or some NSFW variation.)
It usually goes like this:
“Do you know what it is yet?”
“We know it’s twins!”
Followed by this:
It makes my day every time.
Of course, there are the people who have to point out how much work twins will be. I’m sure some do it because they don’t know what else to say, and others seem to think I’m just a little too cheerful to realize how much I’m going to miss sleep. But I just smile and say I’m sure it’s going to be crazy, and won’t they be cute.
But to make up for it, there are those who say they’ve always wanted twins, and how lucky we are to get them. I want to give them a prize!
